We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Head of CAM & Manufacturing to lead, develop and support our CAM Department. This is a pivotal role within the business, responsible for overseeing the delivery of manufacturing information across architectural metalwork, rainscreen cladding and sheet metal fabrication projects. The successful candidate will provide strong departmental leadership, technical expertise and hands-on support, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, accurately and in line with production requirements. The role requires a highly capable individual who can combine team leadership, process improvement and workload management with extensive technical knowledge of architectural fabrication and manufacturing processes. Working closely with Design, Development, Production and Project Teams, the successful candidate will act as the technical figurehead for the CAM function and play a key role in developing departmental capability, efficiency and performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Department Leadership
• Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the CAM Department.• Plan, prioritise and allocate workloads across the CAM team to ensure projects are delivered to programme.• Monitor departmental capacity, resource requirements and delivery performance.• Act as the primary point of leadership and technical guidance for CAM personnel.• Foster a positive, proactive and high-performance culture within the department.• Support succession planning and long-term capability development.
2. Team Development
• Mentor, coach and support CAM Technicians in their day-to-day responsibilities.• Drive improvements in technical capability, confidence and performance across the team.• Identify training requirements and support ongoing professional development.• Establish clear expectations, accountability and best-practice standards.• Promote knowledge sharing and continuous learning across the department.
3. Technical Leadership
Provide expert guidance relating to sheet metal fabrication, architectural metalwork and rainscreen cladding systems.• Review and validate manufacturing information to ensure technical accuracy and manufacturability.• Support project teams in resolving complex design and manufacturing challenges.• Act as a subject matter expert for fabrication methods, production processes and façade construction systems.• Ensure manufacturing outputs meet project, quality and production requirements.
4. Production Support
• Work closely with Production to ensure manufacturing information is practical, accurate and aligned with workshop requirements.• Provide hands-on CAM support during peak workload periods or on technically challenging projects.• Assist with production problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.• Ensure effective communication between Design, Development, CAM and Production teams.• Support the successful delivery of projects through all manufacturing stages.
5. Process Improvement
• Review and streamline departmental procedures, workflows and standards.• Identify opportunities for increased efficiency, consistency and quality.• Develop and implement best-practice processes and documentation.• Support the ongoing development of departmental KPIs and performance measures.• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance departmental performance and output quality.
6. Essential Experience & Skills
• Significant experience within sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing environments.• Strong understanding of architectural metalwork and façade construction.• Extensive knowledge of rainscreen cladding systems and associated manufacturing requirements.• Proven experience leading or managing technical teams.• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods and production workflows.• Advanced SolidWorks capability, including the creation, review and validation of complex manufacturing models and detailed production drawings.• Experience producing and reviewing CAM data and manufacturing information.• Ability to identify and resolve technical and manufacturing challenges effectively.• Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery requirements.• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments while maintaining ownership and accountability for CAM delivery.
